How does Obama and McCain define "small business" ?

Ariel Arons: This is fairly complicated, as small businesses do not follow a finite pattern, they are highly diverse. But here's something to consider, "Barack Obama will eliminate all capital gains taxes on start-up and small businesses to encourage innovation and job creation. Obama will also support small business owners by providing a $500 “Making Work Pay” tax credit to almost every worker in America. Self-employed small business owners pay both the employee and the employer side of the payroll tax, and this measure will reduce the burdens of this double taxation.""Barack Obama will support entrepreneurship and spur job growth by establishing a small business and micro-enterprise initiative for rural America. The program will provide training and technical assistance for rural small businesses, and provide a 20 percent tax credit on up to $50,000 of investment in small owner-operated businesses."...Show more

Caterina Yeargan: Did you hear yourself? And I q! uote "I still haven't heard McCains' definition of a small business, but it looks like Obamas' tax plan would hurt small businesses more than McCains'." End quote. How can you say that Obamas' plan is worst than McCains' and you haven't even gotten a clear explanation from this man. You just totally played yourself. :(

Terresa Tsasie: I havent heard his definition, but he did say that he wouldnt raise taxes on people during this economic crisis, like obama would. that's what I meant.

Violette Vanek: I am looking for answers to the same question and hence don't have an answer for you, but maybe we can figure this out together. Elle, I appreciate the link you provided, but this paragraph is worrisome to me:"Barack Obama will support entrepreneurship and spur job growth by establishing a small business and micro-enterprise initiative for rural America. The program will provide training and technical assistance for rural small businesses, and provide a 20 percent ta! x credit on up to $50,000 of investment in small owner-operate! d businesses."It reminds me of the current housing crisis. The bar was lowered so much that anyone could get a loan and a large group of people who were not credit worthy were able to purchase houses which they are now defaulting on. Likewise, if we lower the bar so low for startups aren't you worried that people who do not have a sound business plan (even if they have the best intentions) will start a business that they will ultimately fail at. They will fail at something that they were setup to fail to begin with because it was just too easy to start a business without much preparation. I guess what I'm really asking is what kind of oversight these organizations, that will be providing help to rural America, are going to have?I think that is a very important question to ask to not get ourselves into the same mess again. I do not want to take away anyone's American dream I just want to make sure that it doesn't get turned into a nightmare. ...Show more

Vernita Robber! son: absolutely. I am a small bz owner and I have read his plan. I am terrified. The man doesn't know the first thing about business. He is going to extract as much as possible from the most productive and hand it to everyone else. That is great if you are incompetent.Lady Love: Do you own a small business? Can you tell me how Obama's plan to increase taxes over 250K (not that much income when the government already takes 36% Fed, 7% State, and huge property taxes here in NY state). They already get HALF!!! I don't understand why the Left just wants to take as much as they possibly can and punish people who work ALL of the time. Do you know what Payroll taxes are and what they mean to the self employed? Any idea what Capital Gains taxes are? How about taxes on dividends (when we already are taking a huge hit). Please explain it to me....Show more
