Daria Verfaillie: Go for your masters: sociology, social work, psychology, mental health psychology. Check on the universities websites and their programs for social work. Or better yet just talk to your advisor.
Jamika Gregorio: My husband is a social worker in the mental health field. You need to go to a four year college that preferably offers a masters in social work or human services. I want to warn you right off that there is a high rate of burnout in the substance abuse field, but you MUST study it, and you may have a gift for it. Study sociology, psychology, english lit., chemistry, statistics, and every social work class you have room for. There will be a lot of writing, to get you used to writing reports and notes. Go on to the Masters program, because without it you will get low paying, dead-end jobs. You can be a social worker in many areas of work. My husband wanted to be a school social worker so he could coach after school. There are ment! al health programs galore to choose from. You could even work for the YMCA or YWCA.Good luck, and happy studying....Show more
