Tobie Oshea: First off you most likely didn't need a battery. I'm betting you took your dead battery in to have it tested, you can not test a dead battery, it must be fully charged first. And I'm sure that didn't happen, they just put the tester on and the needle just dropped off the scale. You need to get smarter about your money.Your pr! oblem has always been the alternator or the wire from it to th! e starter, some wires have fuseable links in them and that could be burnt. Basil Blasingame: i know theyre more or less the same thing...but my going to make tail lights close to black but still easily visiable and i put an after market black grill on my truck already so i dont want to make head lights really dark..on top of that its hard enough to drive at night with window tint....so i was wondering if my truck (97 gmc sonoma sls color:white) would look ok with blacked out tail lights and just a shade or two darker head lights than stock

Dorinda Metzer: Alternator and battery light came on, a day later it stalled and i had to get a jump. i'd just replaced the alternator 2-3 mos. ago so i checked the battery and it was bad so i replaced it. Now after driving my chrysler 300m/ 2001 for 10-15mins. everything shuts down and the car stalls. Could it be the alternator is now bad as a result of the bad battery?

Ardelia Liptow: alternators last 150000 miles they are very reliable my guess is there was nothing wrong with the first one or the battery and someone has rewired some circuit on the car like an amp that is wrecking your electrics

Curt Broadhead: if you have a volt meter, you can do the basic test but it is not a complete version. measure the battery voltage with the key off. it should be 12.6 or very close to that. engine running that should get up to 13.5 to 14.5 volts. on some systems it takes a bit to get up to that level. if you are in that range, id assume that the system is ok but the unknown is the amp flow at that point. the alternator could be a reason for the battery to fail.

Melvin Nakama: If you have a voltmeter you can measure the voltage at the battery.When the car not running the voltage should be 12~12.3vWhen the car is running the alternator comes on and voltage reading should be around 14.5v.If it reads below 12v then the alternator is bad.A car with a bad battery will still run because the alternator is providing the voltage. So, it's a good chance that your new alternator is bad. The shop can check it....Show more

The battery will be dead again, maybe in a couple days if the alternator is bad.As to your question, yes a bad alternator can effect the battery, but also a bad battery can effect the alternator.One other thing.
