Manual Burtis: there are a 2 most obvious differences them being the m16 has a full 20 inch barrel and the m4 having usually a 16 inch barrel.hence the m16 being a rifle and the m4 a carbine! . the other difference is the m4 having a telescoping or collapsible stock which allows for a more compact gun for close quarters combat. the other differences are a shorter handguard which is also a shorter gas tube which in gives the m4 a faster rate of fire then the m16 but makes more stress on the parts giving it less realiblity another thing is that since the m4 has a shorter barrel it gives the 5.56 bullet less velocity and since the 5.56 relies on velocity to make it lethal it loses effective range faster then the m16. a few minor things that people could care less about is that the m4 is also louder because there is less time for the gas to expand but its not a big deal since guns are loud anyway the m4 has a shorter sight distance so its a little less accurate but not enough to matter so no one cares...Show more

The only differences are that the M4 M16 AR15 Handguard Weaver Rail Set is two rails that bolt onto the! handguards of the rifle and the M4 RIS Rail & Vertical Gun Ri! fle Grip is one rail that bolts onto the handguard and a verticle RIS foregrip.I hope my answer helped you.
